Conditions recorded as part of the CSS Inspections and TfL CSS Inspections drive the Element Condition Index (ECI) Bridge Condition Index (BCI) and Bridge Condition Score (BCS). Corrected defects are now also a source of condition information for these calculations.
With a structure opened click on the BCI tab at the top to open the BCI page and get a breakdown of the BCI scores.

At the top is the Latest Element Condition table. Each column displays the conditions recorded for each inspection or corrected defect, with the column header displaying the date of the condition source.

The BCI Average and BCI Critical values displayed in this table are the derived from the latest conditions as of the date of the column. So in the example above the column labelled PI - 10/12/2009 has BCI Average and Critical values based upon condition information from the PI 10/12/2009 and the GI from 26/02/1979. During the PI - 10/12/2009 element 9 did not have any condition information recorded against it, so for the BCI Average and BCI Critical calculations the 1979 condition of 4B is used. Meanwhile in the case of element 17 this was inspected for both the 1979 and 2009 inspections so the 2009 condition is used as it is the latter of the two conditions.
Below the Latest Element Condition table is the inspection element condition table. This table displays the conditions recorded as part of a CSS inspection. If there is more than one inspection click on the drop down list where it says Show me the BCI score for inspection dated: to get ECI, BCI and BCS results for a particular inspection date. To get a printable PDF version of the that inspection click the Print PDF Report link to the right of the drop down.

The Bridge Condition Index (BCI) and Bridge Condition Score (BCS) are displayed to the right of the Element Condition Index table. These values are based upon conditions recorded during individual inspections only. The Bridge Condition Index Values have been colour-coded according to the key shown.
If an element description is shown in bold in the element condition table it means it's condition scores are used in the calculation of the Critical BCI and BCS.
To view the latest condition information click on the Latest Condition option in the inspection date drop down.

This will look at each element that has been inspected and display the most recent condition information for that element regardless of the source of that condition information. So if a special inspection is completed for just one element on its own a year after the main inspection, then that condition will be displayed alongside all the other conditions collected during the main inspection. The Bridge Condition Index (BCI) and Bridge Condition Score (BCS) are also updated to reflect the latest condition information.
BCI Scores and Multiple Elements (Defects)
For individual inspections all element results are used in the calculation of the Bridge Condition values. So in the example below elements 7, 8 and 9 all have multiple results, and each of these element results is considered when calculating the BCI and BCS values.

In this example there has been one inspection on 22/01/2008 and the individual inspection element results give the following values:

The same structure can also have a latest condition. During this calculation, if multiple examples of the same element are found on the inspection proforma the worst condition of each element type is passed on to be part of the BCI and BCS value calculation. So we can see below elements 7, 8 and 9 all pass the worst severity and extent results to be part of the calculation.

In this example of a structure with only one inspection this gives a slightly different set of Bridge Condition values compared with the individual inspection.
