Inspection Planning 4: Managing an inspection programme

IMPORTANT: This module is intended to be a decision support tool and should not be solely relied upon for determining the inspection interval, i.e. a certain degree of engineering judgement should be applied while putting the model output into practice. It is advisable that the module is operated after the report 'Risk Based Inspection for Highway Structures', which explains, in detail, the adopted methodology and the intended use of the model, has been carefully read and understood.

To begin managing an inspection programme user first need to access the RBI Administration page. From here users can click the Manage Inspection Programme link.

Users are presented with an Inspection Programme grid that details each programme, its start year and its target annual cost for each inspection type (Unsmoothed, Smoothed, Altered, Time Based).

Click on a title to begin modifying the programme. The first screen you will see is the programme you have selected split up into areas. There will be a row for each of the four inspection types within the maintaining areas selected for the programme.

There is a Final Programme column to indicate to the user if any of the programmes have been selected as part of the final programme for that programme year.

Users can update the Title and notes that go with the programme. To update the programme itself, click on an area name to view/modify the inspection programme.
